UPDATES on MY LIFE

So I have watched So Close for the nth time! Yup, that was indeed so close to burning the dvd!

Plus, I, too, have watched the ending of Jewel in the Palace for the nth time, and it made me cry for the nth time. Grabe, I liked the ending so much because of the simplicity, I appreciated it very much. I think that's just what we need, simplicity. Now Jang-geum, you can finally be happy! I'm happy for you! It really made me cry, knowing how Jang Geum's life had been hurt by the colorful palace. Just as she have said, the palace taught her the wonders of cooking and allowed her to practice her medical skills, but it is also because of the palace that lost her mother and Lady Han. The palace may have made you think you own everything, but it will also tak the most important things from you. I will not blame her for choosing not to stay in the palace, she knows she can serve more people outside the palace gates. I just miss the grandeur of the palace, but Jang Geum was right, inside, it was indeed a sad place. But finally she can settle down, be happy and walk the road she wants to take.

I have watched Jewel in the Palace Special for the nth time too. To those who don't know yet, JITP special is a special tribute show to Jewel in the Palace. It is a pre-taped one episode talk show, featuring Lee Young Ae and Co. plus a lot of goodies, like the Bloopers and everything.
That single episode ranked the fifth most watched show in Korea, of course, the number one is JITP the series.

Sadly, my DVD copy of the show has no English subtitles, but as the worthy fan that I am, I sitted through the almost 1 and a half hours that is the show. So I was there, watching, without understanding anything but a few Korean words and the names of the actors. Thanks to Kyun Mi Ri(Lady Choi), I didn't really feel out of place. She was active with her gestures that I wa able to comprehend what she was saying. She talks so much! Ang Daldal! But I like her so much, she made the audience laugh all the time! She's a commeidienne after all(tama ba spelling!). But when she was asked to take on the role of a villain, she did so very well. Hay.. I like her so much, she is the one in the picture below the smaller one. A basta, thanks to her, may naintindihan ako kahit papano.

So ang dilemna ko ngayon, mamamatay ako pag di ko nalaman ang pinaguusapan nila sa JITP Special, pero may solution ako: This summer, I will be taking Korean classes. Yes, I'm really going to learn how to speak Korean!

Comments on Hong Ri-na(Geum Young, the one in the smaller pic), My Gosh!, she is gorgeous when she's not in costume, she looks really elegant. Magagalit ba kayo if I write here that she is even more gorgeus than Lee Young Ae? Okay, I already wrote it down. But maybe because, medyo hindi nagsuklay si LYA sa JITP Special. Basta, she really caught my eye, plus the actress who played Queen Menjong, she is really pretty. I love Queen Menjong, in fact, she is my second favorite character in JITP, right after Lady Choi. Hmmm. You see, I'm not your typical Jewel fan.

---So far so good. Avisala Meiste!

The Voice of Majika
Article posted March 20, 2006

Music is magic that almost everyone can attempt to conjure. But not everyone is as astig as Kitchie Nadal. The part-pop, part-rock princess lends her talent as the composer and songwriter of the theme of the latest telefantasya of GMA, Majika.

She shares how the idea came about by saying "Sinabi na nila yung story, how it will go. From there, na-inspire ako to write the song. Well, it definitely doesn't sound the like my usual kind of music so, na-excite na ako. I was really excited when I was doing it."

This is the first time that Kitchie was asked to write a song specifically for a television show. Despite her success as a solo artist, as a composer she has always wanted to create tunes that will compliment images on-screen."This is my dream come true, to write songs for movies, for soundtracks. Because I love movies" she said. In fact, she remembers being particularly moved by the original soundtrack of the film, Great Expectations.

As an artist, how much of the song Mahika is from Kitchie? How much of it is based on the story of the show?

"I think it's more of my influence. I have a little background about Filipinos believing in magic. I'm studying Psychology. I have a subject in Filipino psychology as in this sem. From there, doon ko nakuha yung mga ideas yung totoo, why are we so fond of magic, ganoon"she answered.

It was indeed a helpful coincidence because Kitchie was given only three weeks to compose and record the song. But the result was better than what the artist herself expected. GMA top executive, Wilma Galvante herself relayed why they chose Kitchie. "Usually, we get a traditional love song. This time, lumihis na naman kami. We thought, why don't we get Kitchie? Why don't we get a rocker type pero naririnig at naiintindihan siya ng masa? Lyrics niya, music niya. Nung pinakinggan namin, magical siya." she commented.

Listen and watch the magic unfold in Majika, weeknights during GMA Telebabad.

Finally, lyrics ng Majika, enjoy!

Majika
by:Kitchie Nadal(my luvs)
performed by:Kitchie Nadal(my luvs ulet)
OST, Majika

Aaah......aah...aah
Sa pagsibol ng araw
Nakikiusap na sa ulap
Mapalikas sa mapalinlang
Mga aninong bumabalot sa lupa
Bahaghari lang nais na matanaw...

Chorus
Majika...aaah
Ikaw ang tanging pag-asa
Binhi sa kanyang kinagisnan
Pagkat landas ay di na babalika...aan

Sa paghamon ng gabi
Bakas ng luha'y susundin
Patungo sa mapaglarong tadhana
At nag-aalab na lihim
Sa ngalan ng pag-ibig ay tutuklasin
(Repeat chorus)

Bridge

Kalawakan ay di likas sa binhi
Nadadala lamang ng ihip ng hangin
Kakapit at umaasa
Majika...
(Repeat Chorus)

I'm sorry I ever allowed myself to get carried away by the stunning facade of the palace, it almost obscured my sight of you. I am sorry if my words of love have ever become too vague for you to hear, that with every mention of your name is tinged with shame. I am sorry that every night, I manage to sleep without seeking your soothing embrace, or without laying my eyes on that lovely face. I am truly sorry and now, I hope you'll allow me back to the solstice of your kingdom. I became light headed, having ventured into other more extravagant palaces, but I learned one thing: I cannot forget who I really am and whatever happens, Encantadik pa rin ako! at sa Lireo lang ako patuloy na magbabalik!

This is my first attempt at reviewing films.. And for the meantime, I will review the most recent film that I have seen well, not really, more of, the most recent film which caught my eye. It is So Close, a movie from the Hong Kong cinemas.

The movie revolves around two assassin sisters and one kick-butt woman cop. Linny is the elder sister, the one who performs most of the killings, while Sue(Zhao Wei) stays at home, working with a software her father developed to help Linny. This software is designed to tap at any security device at every building in the world. Her father originally wanted to give his invention to the cops but was killed for it. Later on, the sisters became assassins, killing criminals for other criminals for a living. They were very successful, not until a lady cop tackles their cases, detective Hong (Karen Wok).

You may find my summary very incomprehensive (that's why you should buy a DVD copy!). But my purpose here is to review the film.

I will start with the plot, and I would rate it to be quite outstanding, however, certain portions of the story may be quite under developed, like the character of Yen (Song Seong Hun), Linny's boyfriend. All the time in the film, it was as if, he was just an expectator and the manner of his character failed to mingle with the other characters. Yen's character failed to take of with the rest of the film, and all the time, he remained at the backseat while other less important, less dialogued characters were able to stay up front.

Another under developed part of the movie is the love story between Sue and Hong.(kind of makes me remember the disappointing endings of such beautifully created telefantasyas) They could do with more dialogues together.(hey! They only kissed once and that was merely a peck, kinds of make me think that that’s only Sue’s way of thanking people that saves her life, not a show of love and affection). Surely, if they are lacking in budget, I suggest that they should have just cut the unimportant and boring scenes of Linny and Yen. No, I am not saying that the love angle between Sue and Hong was wasted but it just doesn’t testify to Hong’s last words in the film, “ my relationship with Sue, a relationship between a cop and a bandit.” Seriously, the whole story could have just evolved around those words.(frankly saying, I could have done better.)

On the directing however, yes it could have been better. After Linny died, the directing died with her. What do I mean? Real directing has been replaced by transitions every 5 seconds (hey! This is a film, not PowerPoint!). Plus, they could have experimented more with the graphics. But what’s good is that, the director was able to keep the viewers on the edge, he was able to keep us expecting and craving for more after each scene, but it also has its downside, because if a director has the ability to make the movie flow that way, he must be able to answer to the viewer’s expectations.

However, the movie is worth watching the second time around, it even made me yell for a sequel even when I’m not yet through with it. I recommend it to everyone who wants a good laugh at the witty action scenes and the ones who love to always get thrown at the edge of their seats by a kick-butt movie.

Okay, I promised that my nest post would be yesterday but the thing is, I was watching JITP so I wan't able to update yesterday.

I'm so happy, sir Martin gave us a WOW! plus a perfect score for our research paper! This week became a week of goodbyes, as most of our last classes for each subject were held this week.(except com sci.) Ha, I miss my second year teachers so much! si sir Mardan, si Ma'm Doplon and the others especially Mama Edulan and Sir Martin(weh!). Yes its true, I didn't expect that I will like him and miss him especially with all the misunderstandings Adelfa had with him, but I really look forward to having a class outing with him. Being his student is really honorable for me. Sir Marts, I hope you are reading this, It's an honor for me to be a part of your class!

I intended to write something long, but since it's our perio next week, I can't. Good luck to all of us!
